From the Locker Room to the Real World!

“An award winning student athlete development program that covers the unconventional”

The research is clear, although student athletes outperform traditional students in the classroom, at graduation and beyond, they experience problems that are unique to their special situation.  Balancing the demands of being a full-time college student and athlete require a mental toughness that is often not taught in traditional life skills curriculums.  The research of Dr. Gary Sailes and his experiences as a former student athlete and collegiate coach, mentor and advisor culminated in the development of an award winning program titled “From the Locker Room to the Real World!”  This unconventional program focuses on building the mental attitude which opens the door to real skill building that contributes to the successful matriculation and graduation of the student athlete.

Dr. Sailes

This is the powerful message delivered by Dr. Gary Sailes, an award-winning professor, author and performance consultant to academic and sports communities. “Doc”, as he is affectionately known by his clients, has traveled the country conveying this compelling life changing message. Student athletes leave his workshops motivated, but more importantly, they leave with the critical “life skills” to become peak performers in the classroom, on the athletic field, in their careers and in their personal lives.

Year after year, Doc’s clients report they perform with increased motivation achieving the goals they once doubted or thought were unobtainable. Now, the winning formulas of his message are available to athletic teams nationwide. Doc teaches, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right!” He teaches his student audiences that the secret to Peak Performance is Mental Toughness. Doc is the perfect choice for student athlete workshops or any campus program focused on helping students to achieve more.

This stress management education program qualifies for the NCAA Educational Affairs Grant Program which awards up to $2,000 to NCAA member institutions to fund student-athlete development and health and safety related programming.  Doc Sailes is a registered speaker with the program.  His fee can be deferred to this grant if your school qualifies.  Contact the NCAA (Latrice Sales, lsales@ncaa.org, 317-917-6353) for more information.
